Responsible outdoor lighting is not about switching things off. It is about directing light where it is needed, choosing spectra that respect the night, and controlling output by time and occupancy.
Shielding is the foundation: full cut-off optics keep light below the horizontal plane. Spectra matter for ecology — warmer, narrower spectra reduce impact on nocturnal species. Control is the final layer: dimming and scheduling mean the light is there when people are, and gone when they are not.
Compliance is increasingly a matter of public policy; the good news is that the same measures also produce better-looking projects.
